If you’re in Seville in July, don’t miss the Velá de Santa Ana, one of the city’s most traditional and authentic festivals. Deeply rooted in the Triana neighborhood, this celebration brings together culture, music, religious devotion, and a one-of-a-kind summer vibe by the banks of the Guadalquivir River.
Here’s everything you need to know to enjoy it like a true local: dates, events, food, and how to dress.
When is it?
The festival takes place every year around July 26, the feast day of Santa Ana, patron saint of Triana.
In 2025, the event is expected to run from Friday, July 18 to Saturday, July 26.
For a full week, Triana becomes a vibrant scene filled with music, tradition, and joyful gatherings.
Where is it held?
- Calle Betis – beautifully lit and lined with stalls, stages, and casetas (festival tents).
- Plaza del Altozano – home to many activities, shows, and performances.
- Iglesia de Santa Ana – the heart of the religious aspect and origin of the festival. It is the oldest church in the city, but we will explain this and much more on our route. Come and discover this jewel of Triana.
What to do?
Music & Performances
- Free live music every night: flamenco, sevillanas, copla, and more contemporary tunes.
- Featuring both local artists and popular regional groups.
Traditions & Contests
- The famous Cucaña Contest, where brave participants try to reach the end of a greasy pole over the river.
- Traditional games, sports competitions, workshops, and fun activities for children.

Religious Events
- Masses and processions in honor of Santa Ana, organized by the oldest church in Triana.
- Religious services and novenas in the days leading up to July 26.
Food & Drinks
Expect a laid-back but vibrant local food scene:
- Fried fish, montaditos, snails, churros with chocolate, rebujito, cold beer, and more Andalusian favorites.
- Casetas serve food and drinks at great prices with plenty of local flavor.
What to wear
You don’t need to dress in full flamenco attire like at the April Fair, but there’s a casual and colorful “Velá style”:
- Women: summer dresses, long or short skirts, bright tops.
- Men: lightweight shirts or polos, comfortable trousers (no tracksuits), espadrilles or clean sneakers.
- Comfortable shoes are a must – you’ll be walking on cobblestones or standing for hours.
Tips to make the most of it
- Arrive early if you want a good table or front-row view at the concerts.
- Avoid driving – public transport or walking is better.
- Weekdays are quieter if you prefer a more relaxed vibe.
- Bring cash – not all stalls accept cards.
- Don’t miss the Cucaña by the river – it’s both fun and uniquely traditional!
- Be respectful – the Velá is a community celebration with family-friendly charm.
In short…
The Velá de Santa Ana is a hidden gem of Seville’s summer festivities. It keeps its charm, character, and community spirit alive.
It’s the perfect plan to enjoy warm evenings, great food, and the true soul of Triana.
